Tura

Tura is a hilly town located in the state of Meghalaya in India. It is located on the West Garo Hills and known as one of the largest towns in of the state. Basically Tura is a valley which is settled at the foothills of the Tura Hills and you can also see the Tura Peak. There are various national parks to see explored in Tura and you can see the rich wildlife in them. In Tura you can be a part of this city in the various festivals such as Durga Puja or the Navaratri, Christmas and the Garo Festival of Wangala where you can see people playing near about 100 drums and they are showcased in this festival.

  • You can start your tour with the Balpakram National Park is situated in the South Garo Hills and in this National Park you can see many animals like the tigers, Wild bison, wild cow, elephant and also if you visit in the months of April to June you can see various colorful butterflies and flowers blooming in this park and this park is also a home to medicinal plants and herbs.
  • You can also visit the Nokrek National Park which is located near the Tura Peak, within the West Garo Hills. You can see the sparkling natural beauty from the peak of Nokrek peak after which the name of the national park has been kept as it is considered to be the highest mountain peak in the Garo Hills and you can see many source points of many rivers and tributaries, with the River Simsang. The Nokrek National Park is also stated as UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This park is a house to numerous animals, such as the Asian elephant, marbled cat,red-panda, tiger, and pig-tailed macaque and many others.
  • You can also visit the Siju Bird Sanctuary where you can spot many rare and protected birds along with other animals. This is a great place for the bird watchers as they can also spot the migratory Siberian duck at this park in the winters. This Bird Sanctuary is located near the Siju Caves and River Simsang in of the state, where numerous migratory birds come during the winter seasons.
  • You cannot miss the Tura Peak which is located to the east of Tura town and the best part is that there is a reserve forest located at this mountain peak and you can also see a tourist bungalow, with a cinchona plantation and a building. Tura Peak is a place from where you can see the glimpses of Bangladesh.

  • If you are a nature lover then do not miss to visit the Tura Peak as this mountain peak provides a splendid view of the golden yellow plains of Bangladesh and the lower Brahmaputra Valley.   • People looking for picnic spots can visit the Pelga Falls which will be a great spot for picnic and nature exploring.
