Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is a popular bird sanctuary located on the Kothamangalam district of the state of Kerala in India. This bird sanctuary is also known as Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary which is named after the famous one of the best-known ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali who mentioned about this sanctuary as the richest bird habitat on the Indian Peninsula. The literal meaning of Thattekkad means flat forest, because this region is an evergreen lowland forest which is settled between the branches of Periyar River, and this sanctuary houses the largest home of several species of birds that also comprise of water birds and forest birds.
