Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the most famous temples located in Varanasi. The temple enshrines one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and is one of the most respected pilgrimage sites for Hindus. It was constructed by the Maratha monarch, Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar in the year 1780. The Kashi Vishwanath temple is a great endeavor of architecture and is popularly known as the Golden Temple of Lord Shiva, owing the gold plating done on its 15.5-meter high spire. Kashi Vishwanath Temple has enormous religious significance in the Hindu religion. It is believed that those who come to take bath in the holy water of the Ganga and for the Darshan of Jyotirlinga will surely get Moksha.

The Kashi Vishwanatha temple comprises of a mandapa and a sanctum. Inside the sanctum, a linga is enshrined in the sanctum placed in a square silver altar. The Linga is of black stone. And the temple complex comprises of some subsidiary shrines of Kaalbhairav, Dhandapani, Avimukteshwara, Vishnu, Vinayaka, Sanishwara, Virupaksha and Virupaksh Gauri. There is a classic well called Jnana Vapi inside the temple. There are 5 Aartis held at the temple Mangala Aarti at 3:00 am to 4:00 am, Bhog Aarti at 11:15 Am to 12:20 Pm, Sandhya Aarti at 7:00 Pm to 8:15 Pm, Shringar Aarti 9:00 Pm to 10:15 Pm, Shayan Aarti at 10:30 Pm to 11:00 Pm.
