Sanjay Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary

Sanjay Gandhi National Park earlier known as Borivali National Park is the only national park situated inside the Mumbai. The sanctuary is well known for its Lion Safari and tiger safari, Kanheri Caves, boating at the lake and the toy train ride. The significant forest holds more than one thousand species of plants, 40 species of mammals, 251species of land and water birds, 38 species of reptiles, 9 species of amphibians and the large array of fishes. There is 2,400 years old Kanheri Caves located inside the park. These caves were used as monasteries and temples by the Buddhist monks. In the year 1974 it was declared as National Park so as to protect the wildlife of the place.

The prominent bird species of Sanjay National Park are Woodpeckers, Magpies, Jungle Owlets, Hornbills, Racket-Tailed Drongos, Minivets, Robins, Peacock, Golden Orioles, & Sunbirds. At times, one may also come across Paradise Flycatcher, Kingfisher, Swifts, Gulls, Egrets and Herons here. The animals that reside here are black napped hare, spotted deer, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Palm Civet, Rhesus macaque, hanuman langur, Sambhar and Bonnet macaque. And Cobras, Ceylonese cat snake, pythons, monitor lizards, bamboo pit viper, Russell’s viper and crocodiles are the reptiles found here. The National Park is the perfect place for nature lovers.

Tuesday to Sunday : 9:00 am to 5:30 pm

Safari Timings : 9:00 am to 1:00 pm – 2:20 pm to 5:20 pm

Entry Fee

For the Park: Rs.20

For the Safari: Rs.30

Note

1.The Sanjay Gandhi National Park is closed on Mondays.

2.Carry your lunch as you will not find any food stalls inside the park’s premises.
