Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary

Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is one of the beautiful bird sanctuaries situated on the Charao islands of Goa. It is fully surrounded with natural sceneries and mangroves, which is a lovely scene to view. The sanctuary has been named after the famed ornithologist of India Dr. Salim Ali. It is basically a wetland ecosystem with dense mangrove vegetation. It holds more than 400 different types of bird’s variety. Some of the rare varieties of birds seen in this sanctuary are woodpeckers, egrets, redshank, curlews, kingfishers, eagles, redshank, herons, kites, sandpipers, hoopoe and Myna.

Salim Ali bird sanctuary is rich in both flora and fauna. It is fully surrounded with mangroves shrubs. All places in the sanctuary are fully hemmed with bountiful greeneries. The boat rides are also available such that exploring the serenity of sanctuary is amazing. The Nature Interpretation Centre is located at the entrance of the sanctuary and provides information about the floral composition. A three-storied watch tower located right inside the sanctuary provides a panoramic view of the sanctuary.
