Rourkela is a city located in the state of Odhisa in India. Rourkela is one of the beautiful and the second largest cities of the state. This city is known for its huge industrialization because of its steel plants. Rourkela is also known for its great educational institutes such as National Institute of Technology (NIT). And it is also popular in the nationwide because this city has hundred percent literacy rate. According to the legends it is said that Rourkela was originally occupied by a tribal community named as “Raulia” from whom the place got its name. In this city you will also get to see, the meeting of two separate rivers Sankh and Koel, and this is considered as the home of Vedavyasa, who used to be the great poet, who wrote the great epic of Mahabharata.

  • In Rourkela you can visit the Hanuman Vatika which is located in the heart of the city. Here you can see a 75-feet tall standing idol of Hanuman which is constructed by Sri Laxmana Swami. Inside this you can also see other temples like Bruhat Sivalinga, Mandira and Ram Daravar,Santoshi Matatemple. You can see a beautiful garden surrounding this temple.
  • You can also visit the Mata Vaishnao Devi Temple which is located on the hill top and along with the reigning idols of MaaVaishno Devi you can see the deities of Goddess Kali, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati in this temple. The location which is on the top of a hill has picturesque scenes and you will feel blessed after visiting here and it seems like a spiritual place going on the top of the hill.
  • You can visit the Nehru Park and museum and this is a Submarine Museum, ‘Smritika’ which is a set up located near the Vishakapatanam port, and located at the serene beach which is named as Rama Krishna Beach.
  • You can also visit the Ghogar which is a great picnic spot and you can also see a huge Shiva idol made with black granite and this temple is quite auspicious among the local people of the city.
  • You cannot miss the Khandahar Falls which is the fourth highest waterfall in India and this falls from a height of 244 meters. This is a scenic place and a must visit for all the tourist who love to be near the natural locations.
