Red Fort

Red Fort the most iconic architecture in Delhi City is a great historical building and used to be the residence of the Mughal emperors. It was built in 1648 by famous Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and is considered to represent the pinnacle of Mughal Architecture under Shah Jahan. Built with huge red stones the Red Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the center of attraction in Delhi attracting tourist and local all through the year. On every 15 August, the Independence Day of India the Prime Minister hoists the national flag at the Red Fort. In the evening there is a daily sound and light show describing Mughal history.

Inside Red Fort

Red Fort sprawls over an area of 254.67 acres enclosed with huge defensive walls made up of red stones. The fort’s artwork is a beautiful blend of Persian, European and Indian art, resulting in a unique Mughal style rich in form, expression, and color. The Lahore Gate is the main entrance of the fort that leads to a mall with jewelry and craft stores. There is a museum of “blood paintings”, depicting young 20th-century Indian martyrs and their stories, an archaeological museum and an Indian war memorial museum.

Some of the main structures in the fort are Chhatta Chowk which used to be market in Mughal period, Naubat Khana which was the drum house , Diwan-i-Am used to be Public Audience Hall and was used for used for state functions , Diwan-i-Khas means Hall of Private Audience and was used for special guests of the emperor, Nahr-i-Behisht from where water was drawn from the Yamuna , Mumtaz Mahal now houses the archaeological museum, Rang Mahal used to be the residence of emperor’s wives and mistresses, Moti Masjid called as Pearl Mosque was the private mosque for Aurangzeb, Hayat Bakhsh Bagh located in northeast part of the complex.

How To Reach Red Fort

Red Fort is located in Chandni Chowk which can be reached via Metro. Chandni Chowk have a metro station which can reached easily. Chandni Chowk located in Old Delhi is most famous area of the city and you can find every transport facility for reaching here. Various DTC Buses have bus routes to this part of the city so reaching here will not be a problem for tourists.
