Punjab is a state located in the northwestern part of India. It is bordered by several other states like Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan. A portion of the state of Punjab is located in the province of Pakistan. Punjab shares the same capital of Chandigarh which is a union Territory with the state of Haryana. The meaning of the name of Punjab is the “Land of Five Rivers’. And the state is known for its majority of the Sikh population in the country. The Golden Temple which is the sacred of all the Sikh shrines is located in this state. Along with the Golden Temple, there are many temples is found in almost every city of the state. Most of the areas of Punjab located in a fertile plain and alluvial plain with many rivers and a wide irrigation canal system which is a source of farming in this state. Punjab is also rich in dense flora and fauna and there are many cities where you can see their beauty.

  • You can start you Punjab tour from the beautiful city of Amritsar where you can see the splendid ‘Golden Temple because the dome of the temple is covered with golden leaf and this is the famous pilgrimage center of Punjab and India as well. The temple is settled near a beautiful pool called “Amrit Sarovar”. This is actually a Gurudwara which is known as Harmandir Sahib and the architecture of this place is worth mentioning as you can see an excellent blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture in this place which is carved with real gold.
  • You can also visit the Jallianwala Bagh which is famous for the great massacre.This was the site where hundreds of innocent protesters were killed by the British army on 13th of April, 1919. You can see the bullet marks on the pierced walls, and this has become a funeral ground for thousands of martyr’s who protested against the British and tried to protect themselves from the firings.
  • You can visit the Anandpur Sahib Gurudwara stands on the capital city of Chandigarh. This is one of the significant centers of the Sikhs as this is noted as the prominent land of Khalsa, the place has a deep religious distinction.
  • Do not miss to visit the Wagah Border where you can see the “Lowering of Flags” ceremony conducted by the security forces of India and Pakistan which are known as Border Security Force and Pakistan Rangers.
