Panaji Travel Guide


Panaji is the capital city of the state of Goa in India. It was previously called s Panjim. Panaji is a beautiful city covered with exotic beaches and also a home to some very beautiful Portuguese and ancient churches, some ancient buildings with galleries and red roofs which look very picturesque, beautiful terraced hills, and a riverside walkway which makes it looks like a hand painted the city. This city lies on the banks of the Mandovi River bay.

The literal meaning of Panaji means the “land that never floods”.Panaji is mostly covered with acacia, gulmohar and other trees. Among major Portuguese constructions, you can see The Baroque Our Lady of the Immaculate which is a conception with standing Praça da Igreja beside it. There are many colorful bungalows, villas;some repaired streets and beautiful buildings show the past reflection of Portugal dominance in the city and you can feel it in the air of Goa.

Why visit Panaji?


  • In Panaji you can visit some of the beautiful Portuguese constructions and to view them do not forget to visit the old city of Goa which is attractive yet nostalgic. Among various other places of interest which were especially built by the Portuguese you can visit the Praça da Igreja which is also known as Church Square and located in the heart of the city which the local people call as Municipal Garden that houses the Portuguese Baroque Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, built in the year1541. You can also visit the old Idalçao Palace, built in the 16thcentury, along with the Institute Menezes Braganza, the Chapel of St. Sebastian and the Fontana’s area which are some of the ancient buildings of the state.
  • Among other tourist attractions of the city you can the nearby beach of Miramar which is a great place for fun activities and the beach is covered with high heading and beautiful palm trees which actually make this place a treat to the eye. Most of the tourist of Panaji visit here and they also enjoy some of the exotic Goan and Konkani foods on the beach restaurants.
  • Among other places you can visit to the Mahalaxmi Temple, Hanuman Mandir , the Jama Masjid, and most importantly the Dona Paula. Dona Paula id a beautiful beach located quite far away from the Miramar and most of the Bollywood films have been shot here. You can also get the boating facility here.
  • You can also visit the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary where you can see the various flocks of birds that includes black drongo and mudskipper. This place will be a great spot for the bird watchers.
