Mysore Palace

Mysore Palace also known as Amba Vilas Palace is the royal residence of Wodeyars – the erstwhile royal family of Mysore who ruled the city from about seven centuries. Mysore Palace is one of the top tourist attractions of India visited by tourists from all over the world. The palace showcase the beautiful blend of Indo-Saracenic style and many other styles of architecture and is in very good condition.

The Palace also have a museum that showcases the souvenirs, paintings, jewellery, royal costumes and other items which were once possessed by the Wodeyars.The collection also has a wooden elephant howdah that is adorned with 84 kilograms of gold. The palace is illuminated with more than 96,000 lights on Dasara festival and every Sunday.

Mysore Palace Architecture

Palace architectural style glorifies the Indo-Saracenic, and blends together Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic styles of architecture.This three storey architecture have beautiful marble arches and a 145 ft five-storied tower. The castle is encompassed by an extensive garden. The walls along the passageways are finished with oil artworks of regal themes.

The Main attraction of the palace are Hall of Private Audience , Diwan-e-aam a public hall , Kalyana Mantapa grand octagonal-shaped pavilion , Gombe Thotti containing traditional dolls from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.Entrance of the Palace is through the Gombe Thotti or the Doll’s Pavilion.

The palace complex includes twelve Hindu temples comprising of Someshvara Temple , Lakshmiramana Temple , Shwetha Varahaswamy Temple of which oldest temple is from 14th century, while the most recent was built in 1953.

Mysore Palace Timings and Entry Fees

Mysore Palace is open for tourist from 10:00am-5:30pm every day and the entry fees for Indian Nationals is Rs 40 while for Other nationals it is Rs 200. For Illumination Timings on Sundays it is 7:00-8:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm during the Dasara festival.
