Lodhi Gardens, Delhi

Lodhi Gardens is a famous historical park located between Khan Market and Safdarjung’s Tomb on Lodhi Road. The park contains various architectural monuments of the 15th century Sayyid and Lodhi Dynasty like Mohammed Shah’s Tomb, Sikander Lodi’s Tomb, Sheesh Gumbad and Bara Gumbad. Lodhi Gardens now is protected by the Archeological Survey of India.

Lodhi garden was set up in between the 15th and 16th centuries by the Sayyid and Lodhi rulers. The garden sprawling over 90 acres of land is very well kept and still have some historical monuments. Lodi Gardens is an important place of preservation and an important tourist as well as picnic spot of tourists and locals.

Inside Lodhi Gardens

Inside the garden you will find beautifully constructed monuments of Lodhi rulers with Bara Gumbad holding the center position, actually, it is not a tomb rather it is like passage way that connects the three domed mosques built in 1494 during the reign of Sikander Lodi. The tomb of Mohammed Shah is visible from the road, and is the earliest structure in the gardens. Another tomb within the gardens is that of Sikander Lodi, which is similar to Mohammed Shah’s tomb.
