Leh Palace

Leh Palace located in Namgyal Hill overlooking Leh Himalayan Ranges was built by King Sengge Namgyal in the 17th century . This nine stories high palace has many cultural influences, dating back to centuries. The palace stood on a rocky hill and is built from stones, mud, woods and sand. The architecture style of the palace is simple yet beautiful made of stone and mud, this palace overlooks the expanse of Leh City and offers stunning views of the surrounding areas.

The palace was abandoned when Dogra forces took control of Ladakh in the mid 19th century. The palace looks in a great shape after the renovation efforts by the Archaeological Survey of India. The ASI restored many of its parts and now it is open for public. Leh is now an important tourist destination and also the hub for Buddhist Devotees. The Palace Museum holds a rich collection of jewelry, ornaments, ceremonial dresses, and crowns. The palace is open to the public and the roof provides panoramic views of Leh and the surrounding areas.
