Kutch Travel Guide

Kutch is a district of the state of Gujarat in India and it is also known as the largest district of the country. The meaning of Kutch is dry and wet and so the Kutch is and it is actually known with the name of the Rann Of Kutch which is popular for its swampy salt levels which become milky white after the shallow water dries up every season just before the rains of the monsoon.

You should not misunderstand this place just as a long stretch of dry lands but it is a place of beautiful flora and fauna with some very popular wildlife sanctuaries of the country. You will be surprise to know that there are ninety seven rivers in this district and all of them flow to the Arabian Sea. In the Rann of Kutch you can enjoy the Wild ass Sanctuary where you will the country’s largest home to the wild asses. This sanctuary is the last place on earth in Asia where you can find the rare species of wild asses.
  • Do visit the Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary which is the home of the Chinkaras along with pangolins, black buck, caracal, desert cat  and you can spot some species of birds in this place like Desert Warbler, Pied Tit, White-browed Fantail, Lesser Spotted Eagle Indian robin, Laughing Dove, home sparrow, Common Babbler and some of the rare species like  White-browed Fantail, Desert Warbler, Pied Tit, Lesser Spotted Eagle and many others.
  • Do visit the Vijay Vias Palace, Dholavira, Mata na Madh, Rudramata Dam apart from viewing the various wildlife sanctuaries and especially the Kutch Bustard sanctuary. Here you can spot some bird species like spotted and Indian Sandgrouse, heron, egrets, grey Fancolins, Houbara Bustards, White Napped tits and many others.
  • You can hire some great jeep safaris all through the Rann of Kutch and it will be a wonderful experience for you to see all those wild animals.

  • Along with the Rann of Kutch do visit Bhuj to explore some other beautiful places like Hamirsar Lake, Swaminarayan temple, Aaina Mahal which is a place of mirrors and Pragmahal Palace and many others.
  • Do shop for some very brilliant embroidery of Kutch which are a must buy. The various embroidered products which are seen in this place are dome on dupattas, Sarees and dress materials. There is some national Award winners are alos there who are popular for presenting this unique embroidery and handicrafts to their customers.
  • Make sure to not to consume alcohol in this place as alcohol is illegal in the entire state of Gujarat.
