Why visit Jammu?

 

  • Very primarily you can visit the Vaishno Devi Shrine located in the town of Katra. This is the sacred cave temple of Vaishno Devi which is an important Hindu pilgrimage of the nations. This temple is dedicated to the mother goddess Durga. In the cave, you can see the three shrines dedicated to the three forms of the goddess—Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasarasvati. Pilgrims reach this temple by trekking to the cave temple.
  • You can visit the Bahu Fort which a religious temple and fort built by Raja Bahulochan 300 years back and this place is visited by a huge number of pilgrims. This temple is settled on the banks of the river Tawi. Inside the fort, you can see a temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali, popularly known as Bave Wali Mata, and the specialty of the fort is that it is surrounded by a beautiful terraced garden which is also a nice picnic spot.
  • You can also visit the Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary to spot the leopards, wild boars, and various species of Birds.
  • You can also visit the Peer Kho Cave which is an ancient cave and you get a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva inside it.
  • Do not miss to visit the Raghunath Temple which is located in the heart of the city and dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The inner walls of the temple are covered with gold sheet on three sides and you can see ancient scriptures and manuscripts sculpted on the wall as this temple is believed to be 130 years old..
  • Do not miss the Mansar lake which will be a treat to your eye and you can also visit the ancient temples of Lord Shiva, Goddess Durga and Lord Vishnu in Narsimha avatar situated in the area of the Lake, which are visited by thousands of devotees.

Jammu is especially known for its Chocolate Barfi, Patisa and Sund panjeeri and also for its local delicacies so while you visit this place do not forget to have these sweets. You can have the staple food of Rajma Chawal which is one of the special dishes of Jammu. Another special dish of Jammu is the Kalaadi which is the processed cheese and you can also buy it good quantity.
