Ladakh is known for its beautiful lakes in the world. The deep blue surface of these lakes shimmers with the touch of sun rays that forms a mesmerizing landscape. These lakes are so beautiful that you can sit on the side without doing anything for many hours or for the whole day. In winters these lakes freeze and treat themselves as a highway. Pangong Tso:

The route of Pangong Tso is the third highest motorable mountain pass in the world. It is situated at a height of about 4,350 m (14,270 ft). The one-third part of the lake lies in India while the remaining two-third part lies in Tibet, a region controlled by China. The lake is located just 5 hours drive from Leh in the Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir.
During the winters when the lake is frozen one can’t walk over it. On that time Gala Festival is organized in which many skiers and ice skaters from several parts of the world participates. During this festival, tourists can see the local culture of the people. No permit is required for Indian tourists to visit the lake. Only foreigners are required to take permit from the tourist office in Leh.

June to September is the best time to travel to Pangong Tso.

Tso Moriri Lake:

This Lake is also known as Moriri Lake. It is located at an altitude of 15,075 feet. It is the largest lakes in the Ladakh region. In 2003, it has been declared as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. This beautiful blue lake is fed by two streams and has a number of species of birds. This place is a popular tourist attraction due to its Buddhist monastery. There are 2 ways to reach Tso Moriri. One route starts from Moore Plains and the other one is through Changthang valley. To visit Tso Moriri Lake permit is required to visit. Inner line permit is required for Indians to travel on this route. Foreigners are not allowed in Changthang and cannot travel beyond Pangong Tso.
Best time to visit
May, June, July, and August is the peak tourist season. In September and early October, you can see the beautiful shades of blue color.

Kyun Tso & Ryul Tso:

The twin lakes of Kyun Tso and Ryul Tso, is located near to Nyoma and Hanle and is about 5000mtrs above the sea level. This lake is also known as chilling Tso. The deep blue surface of this lake shimmers with the touch of sunrays that forms a mesmerizing landscape. Very few tourists visit this lake due to permit issues.
Best time to visit
May, June, July and August is the best time to visit this lake. Here you can see the beautiful shades nature.

Another beautiful lake in Ladakh en route Pangong. The lake is small and mostly missed by many tourists. It is located on the way to Pangong Lake. This place is a paradise for birdwatchers because you can find varieties of birds spotted here.

June to September is the best time to visit Chagar Tso.

Lang Tso & Stat Tso :

Lang Tso & Stat Tso are located in Zanskar region of Ladakh near to Pensi La pass. It is located at an altitude of 14000 feet, the highest point on Kargil. It is surrounded by snow capped mountains which give a stunning view. The perfect scenery and scenic beauty of this lake make it one of the most popular lakes in Leh.

June to September is the best time to visit Stat Tso & Lang Tso.
