Dwarka Travel Guide

Dwarka is a popular city of the state of Gujarat in India. This is one of the ancient cities of the country with strong religious significance. This place of the state is also called as the Devbhoomi. Dwarka is known to be one of the sanctified cities mentioned in the holy books of and in people also take it as one of the Char Dham along with Badrinath, Puri, Rameswaram. The city is more visited by Vaishnavas as they find it more divine and holy due to the popular Dwarkadhish temple which is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The place is mentioned in the Garuda Purana as the most holy city of the religion.

Why Visit Dwarka?


  • Dwarka is considered as one of the holiest cities of the Hindus, because this place is relevant to the Lord Krishna and if you will come here you must see the Dwarkadhish Temple which is solely dedicated to Lord Krishna. This temple was built in between 6th to 7th Century. 6th to 7th century, but is also said that the original temple was built by Lord Krishna’s great grandson, King Vajra.
  • You can see the architecture which is quite ancient and it is of 5-storiis and the entire temple is made of limestone and sand. You will see a flag is raised on the temple tower five times a day. Ou can enter the temple from the two gateways – Swarga Dwar- which is the entrance, and Moksha Dwar- which is the exit. You can also see the other shrines in Dwaraka, for Vasudeva, Devaki, Subhadra, Rukmini Devi, Balaramaand Revati, Jambavati Devi and Satyabhama Devi.
  • Do not miss tehnageshwar Temple which is also counted among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
  • There are various places present in Dwarka which is closely connected with the existence of Lord Krishna such as Bet Dwarka where Lord Krishna use to stay and here he met his best friend blind Sudama. You can also see the Gopi Talav where Krishna used to play with the Gopikas.
  • You can also visit the Hanuman Mandir and Rukmini Mandir which is dedicated to Lord Krishna’s chief queen and first wife Rukmini.

  • Do not miss the divine view of the temple with the Sangam or the meeting of River Gomati flowing towards the sea to be unified.
  • Do not miss the view of the Light House which is a great spot for the tourists in Dwarka. This is a popular place of sea coast of Dwarka. You can spend some very serene and quiet time in this place near the sea water. You can see teh fisherman fishing in the sea water and find some great scenes to be captured in your camera.
  • You can also visit the Panch tirth which is a small pond near Gomti River and the water is not salty here.
  • You can hire some private taxis or vehicles to move around this place as the state buses are not much reliable to our expectations.
