The Victoria Memorial is a royal white marble structure located in Kolkata; West Bengal. The memorial was designed by Sir William Emerson, a famous architect from the then British Empire. It was built in 1921 in the reminiscence of Queen Victoria. The glorious Hall houses a museum in the magnificent building bounded by a pictorial garden with water bodies. The exquisite museum displays the old age artifact, painting and the photographs of eminent personalities who had a major role in the shaping of modern India. A gleaming light show entitled ‘ Pride & Glory – the Story of Kolkata’ is also presented here in the evening that adds charms and beauty to the place. It was declared an institution of National importance by the Government of India Act of 1935.

The splendor of Victoria Memorial is evident in its architecture. The edifice is 338 feet by 228 feet ascending to a height of 184 feet fully constructed in white Makrana marble. It was designed by Sir William Emerson in Indo-Saracenic style as the structure is a blend of British and Mughal elements with Venetian, Egyptian, Deccani and Islamic architectural influences. The central dome of the Victoria Memorial is 16 ft high with figure of the Angel of Victory on top.
