It is one of the oldest active Synagogues located in the old parts of Mattenchery Town. It is the one and only of the seven synagogues in the region still being used. The complex has four structures. It was assembled neighboring the Mattancherry Palace sanctuary on the area given to the Malabari Yehuden or ” Yehuden Mappila” group by the Raja of Kochi, Rama Varma.
