Safdarjung’s Tomb, Delhi

Safdarjung’s Tomb portrayed as "the last glimmer in the light of Mughal architecture" is a sandstone and marble mausoleum finished in 1754. The tomb has four essential structures specifically The Charbagh enclosure plan with the mausoleum at the core, a ninefold floor plan, five part façade and a large podium with a hidden stairway. The tomb is located near the Safdarjung Airport in New Delhi. Mirza Muqim Abul Mansur Khan, who was prominently regarded as Safadarjung was the emissary of Awadh under the Mughal Emperor, Mohammed Shah.

Inside Safdarjung’s Tomb

Safdarjung’s Tomb was the last monumental garden tomb of the Mughal architectural style built over a terrace.Red and buff stones are the materials utilized for building the primary mausoleum which measures 28 meters square. The focal chamber is in a square shape and has eight segments with a cenotaph in the center. There is an underground chamber in the mausoleum which houses the graves of Safdarjung and his wife with painted and ornamented ceilings.

The garden in tomb complex is sprawling over an area of 2,952 square feet .with wide footpaths and water tanks.

Citizens of India and visitors of SAARC (Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives, and Afghanistan) and BIMSTEC Countries (Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Myanmar) – Rs. 5 per head.While for others it is US $ 2 or Indian Rs. 100/- per head.
