Meenakshi Amman Temple is the sacred temple of Hindus located in the city of Madurai in southern India. The temple is among the oldest temples in the country that is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The Meenaskshi temple exhibits a splendid display of architecture having 14 gopurams, paintings and sculptures all over, huge Mandapams. The temple complex abides a golden lotus tank called the Potramaraikulam where devotees take a dip to get themselves released from their sins. The Meenakshi Amman temple is also known by the names of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple or Tiru-Aalavaai or Meenakshi Amman Kovi.
