Dal Lake is one of the most beautiful and important lakes in Srinagar. Here you can find many carved wooden houseboats, vibrant shikaras and floating gardens. Shikaras can be hired from the boat stations and official rates list are displayed on notice boards. If you want to see magnificent views of lake then visit Srinagar’s famous floating market. Swimming, boating, snow skiing (when the lake is frozen during winters), and canoeing are some popular water sports practiced on the lake.

Nagin Lake is very famous among tourist after Dal Lake. This lake is known for its sparkling waters and picturesque surroundings. It is located in the foothills of the Zabarwan ranges which are surrounded by Hari Parbat and Shankaracharya Hill. The deep blue surface of this lake shimmers with the touch of sunrays that forms a mesmerizing landscape. You can also enjoy water skiing, fiberglass boat riding and swimming. The most enthralling activity that visitors can enjoy is a ride in the traditional boats called shikaras.

Manasbal Lake is nestled in the beautiful Jhelum Valley in the north of Srinagar. Colorful traditional shikaras can be seen floating on this lake, which gives a stunning view. Visitors can enjoy a number of leisure activities here, including boat riding, fishing and water skiing. This Lake is the largest freshwater bodies in the Asiatic continent. Here you can see many new species of fish like common carp, rosy barb, snow trout, catfish, salmon etc other species like eagle, little cuckoo, European hoopoe, Monal pheasant, Himalayan pied woodpecker etc. Recently tourism department of Jammu & Kashmir introduced many facilities for water sports and skiing. The Gangabal Lake is among the largest high altitude lakes. The lake is a home of different species of fish such as the brown trout etc. Here you can enjoy fishing but before that a permit has to be taken from Srinagar. Apart from fishing, this lake makes an interesting trekking and hiking spot. You can start your trek from Sonamarg via Kishnasar and Vishansar, which is a 4 days hike. There’s also a one day trek from Kangan via Wangath and Narain Naag. Gangabal Lake can also be approached from Chattergul via Mahalish and Brahmasar, which is a 1 to 2 days trek.
